4 Things You Must Know Before Getting a Shih Tzu + Creamy’s Rescue & Transformation Story
KoreanHalmeoni 2025. 8. 18. 13:39Shih Tzu guide for new owners 🐶: key facts, grooming and health care tips, adoption advice, and Creamy’s inspiring transformation from rescue to happy companion.
Introduction
In September 2023, I welcomed Creamy, a brown-and-white Shih Tzu, into my home.
When I first met him, the vet explained that he had likely been kept in an unsanitary wire cage (puppy mill environment), which had affected his coat and overall health.
It broke my heart, but I felt so fortunate to rescue him and give him a safe, loving home.
Today, I want to share:
🐾 Key facts about Shih Tzus
🌟 How to care for them
💖 Creamy’s inspiring transformation story
If you’re considering adopting a Shih Tzu, this guide will help you prepare and avoid common mistakes.

🐾 Origin & Characteristics of Shih Tzu
- Originally bred as royal lap dogs in China
- Small companion dogs: 4–7 kg (8–15 lbs)
- Luxurious, double-layered coat (brown & white are very popular)
- Minimal shedding, but daily brushing is essential

🌟 Personality & Training
- Loving, affectionate, and great at bonding with owners
- Can be stubborn, so training requires patience
- Still, they can learn commands like sit, stay, and lie down with consistent practice

💖 Lifespan & Health Care
- Average lifespan: 12–15 years
- Prone to eye and skin problems → Regular vet check-ups are a must
- Proper diet, supplements, and grooming can improve skin & eye health significantly
⚠️ Adoption Tips
- Grooming & brushing are a must
- Monitor food portions to prevent obesity
- Daily eye care (tear stains, eye boogers)
🐕 Creamy’s Transformation Story
🐾 Adoption Day:
His coat was stained, his belly fur yellowish, and his skin fragile.
The vet confirmed these were signs of having lived in poor, unsanitary conditions.
That day marked the start of his rescue journey.

🐾 One Year Later:
With consistent grooming, nutrition, and love, Creamy’s coat became shiny again.
The vet noted how lucky he was to have been rescued before his health declined further.

🐾 Today:
Creamy is now healthy, confident, and responds well to training.
From a fragile puppy in a cage to a loyal friend, he’s living proof that rescue and care can change a life.

❤️ A Grateful Journey with Creamy: My Shih Tzu Rescue Story
Shih Tzus are truly lovable, but they require responsible care.
Looking back, I feel so grateful that Creamy was rescued from poor conditions and brought into my life.
With the right preparation and commitment, you too can experience the same joy of adopting a Shih Tzu and sharing your days with a loyal friend like Creamy. 🐶✨
