✈️ Vietnam Airlines Review – Family Trip via Hanoi to Cambodia

Vietnam Airlines review ✈️: our budget-friendly family trip with a Hanoi connection. Inflight meals, Noi Bai Airport tips, web check-in, and how we managed flight delays.

🌸 Why We Chose a Connecting Flight

This summer, I traveled with my daughter and grandsons to Cambodia. Flying long distances at my age isn’t always easy, but the thought of building memories together gave me the courage.
Instead of booking a direct flight, we searched on Skyscanner and found a cheaper option: Vietnam Airlines with a connection in Hanoi.

For five tickets, the total came to about 2.55 million KRW (≈1,950 USD, 390 USD/1 person )—a big saving compared to direct flights.

“Five family tickets for 2.55 million KRW. A budget choice that made this trip possible.”
“Our Vietnam Airlines aircraft at Incheon Airport, ready to take us on our budget-friendly family journey via Hanoi.”

🍲 Inflight Meals – Simple but Heartwarming

Vietnam Airlines’ economy meals were basic, but comforting enough for a family journey.

“Standard economy tray: bread roll, salad, dessert, and a hot entrée.”
“Hot meal option: beef stew with green beans and potatoes. Many travelers recommend the fish dish instead for its lighter flavor.”

👉 Travel tip: On long-haul routes, wine, beer, coffee, and tea are also served. If you get the choice, try the fish—it’s often considered the safer (and tastier) option.

🛍️ Hanoi Noi Bai Airport – Spacious but Limited

Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport is Vietnam Airlines’ main hub. It feels modern and spacious, but when it comes to shopping and dining, the options are surprisingly limited.

“Souvenir shops and small cafés. You’ll find coffee, pho, and fast food, but not much variety.”

Souvenirs include Vietnamese coffee, dried fruit, silk scarves, and small handicrafts. Food is mostly pho, banh mi, Highlands Coffee, or Burger King.
👉 Tip: Do your shopping in the city—prices and choices are much better.

😓 Delays and Challenges

The return leg tested our patience. Our flight was delayed multiple times, and notifications came only by email.

“Delay notification received by email only. Limited English support at the airport made it frustrating.”

Staff spoke little English, so asking questions didn’t help much. We waited for hours, and my grandson eventually lay down across the airport chairs and fell asleep.

“Exhausted but peaceful—my grandson fast asleep during a long delay. A moment both frustrating and unforgettable.”

👉 Survival tip: Check your email constantly for updates, and keep Google Translate handy for communication.

🍀 Free Web Check-In – A Must Use

Vietnam Airlines offers free online check-in starting 24 hours before departure.

“Quick and easy: choose your seat and download your boarding pass before you even arrive at the airport.”

This saves valuable time, especially when traveling with family.

💌 Looking Back – And What’s Next

This journey had its ups and downs: budget-friendly fares, simple but satisfying meals, a modern yet underwhelming airport, and frustrating delays. But traveling with my family made every challenge worthwhile.
One image lingers with me most: my grandson curled up asleep across the cold airport chairs. That snapshot alone turned the inconvenience into a memory I’ll never forget.
💡 And this is just the beginning. In the next post, I’ll share how we explored Angkor Wat with Mengjo, a warm-hearted Cambodian guide who spoke Korean and made the temples come alive in unforgettable ways. Stay tuned!
